The Dark Horse is centrally located in a 2 story colonial rowhouse complete with dark wood, exposed brick, and one of the oldest working fireplaces in the city. Although we are a large establishment, each of our 6 rooms project a cozy feel and a laid back atmosphere reminiscent of the great pubs of England & Ireland. Our place is great for anyone to gather, relax & have a few pints with friends & family. We are open daily for lunch & dinner, and a little earlier on Saturday & Sunday mornings for our football fans (that's “soccer” to you Americans). Our menu reflects all that a good pub should offer: house made steak & mushroom pie, bangers & mash smothered in onion gravy, and shepherd's pie with a side of H.P. sauce (to name a few). However, if you are in the mood for something a little more American, check out our selection of sandwiches, steaks, and salads. Our dining room is always available to accommodate large groups or families that want to dine in a low-key atmosphere.
You can also enjoy our city's rich history while visiting the Dark Horse. We are just a short distance from the Liberty Bell & Independence Hall and we are located across the street from a National Historic Landmark. Also, as you walk the cobblestones amidst the Ben Franklin lanterns, make sure you look for houses with special signs designating them “historic”. Our neighborhood has the largest concentration of original 18th and early 19th century architecture of any place in the United States. (Our building itself was constructed in 1788).
We hope you have an enjoyable visit to the Dark Horse and our interesting and historic neighborhood.
